Introducing… 16 Underground

Taking us back to the creamy and dreamy era of trip hop from the mid-90s to the early 2000s, 16 Underground sounds both nostalgic and fresh. Their drum loops are sharp and cosy, and the guitars wax and wane smoothly like good Brit Pop from the era. Vocalist Ashley Tarin has a disconnected vulnerability that resembles the superb Melanie Garside. Think “Everything But The Girl” with an indie edge and you’ll be bang on the money.

‘Chasing a Comfort’ is the opening track from ‘Drifting Deeper’ – 16 Underground’s debut EP. The single is out now, with the EP releasing on 8th August. It will feature five tracks and two remixes and the band says it will tap further into their dreamlike sonic world. Lyrically, the EP will tackle themes of feeling lost and longing for familiarity whilst also knowing that life must go on. I think sad and introspective trip hop is the perfect genre to convey that and 16 Underground nails the vibe.
