After five years of travelling around various natural spiritual homes such as Sedona, the Rockies, and the forests of Japan, Coren Smith has turned his love for rock into what he calls Meditative Rock. These are long, rhythmic pieces with long stretches of powerful guitar solos taking charge. There are parallels to the prog rock and post-rock genres, but the synths and background waves evoke more of a new age, cosmic tonal quality than something psychedelic.
Coren Smith’s latest single is called ‘Opening the Third Eye’ and clocks in at a whopping 23 minutes! Structured as a rhythmic build-up into an electric guitar-led state of euphoria, the listener is grounded back into a state of calm with an extended surf-rock noodling outro that’s perfect for basking in smiles. It was created in collaboration with the Monroe Institute, which focuses on programmes and projects to help people expand their consciousness. I recommend listening to this track with some decent headphones. The song is built around spatial audio, so hearing the rhythms and synths surround you is an immersive experience.
