Introducing… Bye Bye Tsunami

It isn’t often I stray too deeply into rage metal but something about Bye Bye Tsunami’s new single ‘My Dog Doesn’t Love Me’ clicked. The trio thrive on making what they call “meth metal” and “post-mental” music – the latter descriptor I absolutely love. Their music wallows in feeling lost on this planet and consists of extreme outpourings of grief, sadness and despair. All my favourite things to feel in 2024!

Bye Bye Tsunami says the track is a prayer addressed to the Dog-God who despises them. “My sadness is deep and inescapable. I just wanted a pet to express the feelings I hide deeply in my soul and finally find some relief, but even that doesn’t work. What have I done to deserve my Dog’s hatred?” I’m having a vision of a dog staring at its owner whilst cocking a leg against a prized possession.

Musically, the song explodes from one metal death pile to another dressed with screaming lyrics. My favourite part is where a dial-up modem is intertwined with the electric guitar to form the guitar solo. It sounds alien and futuristic – like a robot screaming into the void. The Denmark-based trio also build their own bespoke wind instruments, but honestly, I can’t hear them here!

Enjoy the chaotic and caustic music video for ‘My Dog Doesn’t Love Me’ below. The single is taken from their new EP ‘Eating’ which is out now. You can find out more about Bye Bye Tsunami on Bandcamp.
