Kate Bush releases short animation ‘Little Shrew’ for War Child donations

Kate Bush has spent the last couple of years working on an animation. ‘Little Shrew’ came into being when Kate found herself driven into creativity by the war in Ukraine. She wanted to show the impact of war on children. In an interview with BBC4, she said initially the shrew was going to be a little girl, but Kate felt we’ve become so desensitised to human suffering, a small creature would work better. The killing of a dog in a film still sends people up in arms and I think that’s an astute observation about humanity in 2024. After storyboarding the animation, an illustration company Inkubus came onboard to help realise the vision.

Kate Bush set the animation to her song ‘Snowflake’ and it is to raise awareness for the charity War Child. We follow a shrew as she searches for hope across a bombed-out city. War Child supports children in conflicts, aiming to keep them safe and help them to heal, learn and thrive. Watch ‘Little Shrew’ below. If you listen to the interview, she mentions being ready to make new music too.
