Live Vault – Ibibio Sound Machine

KEXP is a fantastic station that invests its time providing a global view of music. Ibibio Sound Machine is a band I discovered a few years ago and their recent album ‘Pull The Rope’ is a fantastic mixture of 80’s mass production pop that you’d find from Gloria Estefan, but with a large splash of Africa rather than South America included in the machine. They have a bombastic, euphoric and celebratory sound whilst tackling all kinds of themes lyrically that sneak in under the jovial tones.

If you are looking for a large dose of up-tempo synths, jazzy brass sections, African percussion and catchy melodies – this performance will put a funky smile on your face. Enjoy the KEXP performance and find out more about Ibibio Sound Machine on their website. I’ll be writing belated reviews of their 2024 album release ‘Pull The Rope’ and follow-up EP ‘The Black Notes EP’ taken from the same sessions in the new year. Spoiler alert – I highly recommend them.
