Defying subgenres, Bandler Ching is a Brussels-based trio that tackles all kinds of electronic music without sticking to one type. For their sophomore album ‘Mercurial’, they will be flirting with the edges of industrial trap whilst blending in elements of vaporwave, hip-hop, ethereal ambient and deconstructed synth electronica too. Bandler Ching mixes in real instruments such as bass, live drums and the saxophone but often in non-traditional ways. Each track is a dynamic shapeshifting expression of music in a digital age.
Their new single ‘Ketsune’ starts off as a breezy yet stompy jazzy track that slides into vaporwave drones. Then as the rhythm elements really kick in, the vaporwave elements are overtaken by melodic riffs, bass bomb trap beats and a dizzying funnel of half-motifs. What was calm and serene is now a distorted, visceral pumping machine. Who doesn’t love a visceral slap drum when it lands so hard? It is a fantastic lesson in sound design and song structure. Fans of Sam Gendel will appreciate the experimental noise approach too.
Enjoy the trippy visualiser for ‘Ketsune’ for added industrial vibes. The single is out now, whilst the forthcoming album ‘Mecural’ is due for release on 21st February. You can pre-order it on Bandcamp. For more information about Bandler Ching, follow them on Instagram.
