Emaline Delapaix returns with magical ethereal winter folk lullaby with new album to follow

It has been a truly gruelling and battle-scarred four years for Emaline Delapaix, whose 2020 album ‘With Every Beat‘ was one of the best albums of that year. Emaline has battled autoimmune issues since the pandemic and has documented her ups and downs in the legacy of the pandemic we don’t hear much about – those who were injured as part of the response. Four years on, Emaline has learnt to live with her condition and some of that pragmatism has seeped into her new single.

‘When The Light Falls And The Bear Sleeps’ is a Nordic-tinged folk lullaby with haunting ethereal vocals, some lush folk instrumentation, and a dollop of Kate Bush’s witchiness in the middle eight. Delapaix invites the listener to slow down and rest their weary bones as she provides a warm campfire of solace from the harsh winter outside. Scandanavian instrumentation brings a lush and vibrant tone to the song, with nyckelharpa, accordion, and shamanic percussion adding a European folk flair. Emaline says the track was inspired by a longing to go back to simpler times.  She felt nostalgic for previous winters spent in rural Mecklenburg Vorpommern, Germany, as well as in a tiny wooden cabin on an island in Western Canada. As Winter often is a nemesis for anyone with a compromised immune system, Emaline used this track as a way to make peace with the season itself.

‘When The Light Falls And The Bear Sleeps’ is the lead single from the forthcoming album of the same name. The album is due for release on 12th May and can be pre-ordered on Bandcamp. The single comes with a beautiful music video. The video was shot overnight in a valley near Emaline’s home base in the UK. It perfectly captures the mood. The three track single is out now.
