Lyra Pramuk returns with her first solo music in five years with her new single ‘Vega’. It is a psychedelic, angular, at times caustic, and always kaleidoscopic electronic track. It merges hypnotic rhythms, unusual reedy drones, and unusual vocal layering which uses AI to manipulate Lyra’s voice. Usually, Pramuk avoids the English language for echolalia but here we get a muddled mix.
As technology manipulates technology and organic sounds are twisted out of shape, ‘Vega’ is a track that sets out a new era for Lyra Pramuk. Her previous work was more like a tone poem. This is more abstract and dare I say aggressive. About the track, Lyra says:
“Vega was the first star to have itself and its spectrum photographed other than the sun – a long-time companion to human beings for millennia. The single explores the intense and devotional connection of human beings to this distant star, an almost erotic desire and impulse to know it, to discover it, to see it and understand it more clearly. It points toward an intergalactic and post-human form of love, extending way beyond the confines of our biosphere.”
The accompanying music video is simple and shot in Lyra’s home. The single is out now. For more information about Lyra Pramuk and her music, art, and installations, visit her website.
