Kathryn Joseph returns with haunting ‘Harbour’ signalling incoming fourth album has a more electronic feel

With each album, Scottish singer-songwriter Kathryn Joseph tweaks her sound. Following the almost entirely electric piano and voice album ‘For you who are wronged’, Kathryn released a collaborative remix album with Lomand Campbell. Lomand took five album tracks and reworked them into electronic synth-laden pieces. It felt like a fresh interpretation whilst keeping Kathryn’s intensely haunting and ethereal witchy tones.

‘Harbour’ sees Kathryn continue working with Lomand, not just sonically but visually as Lomand created the music video too. Instead of focusing on a single instrument, the new sound brings industrial, zappy beats, and a cold machine whirr and hum of the organ. Synths bleep and bloop, and dry sizzle effects crank up the atmosphere on Joseph’s vocals. It is a fascinating departure from the more rustic approach of Kathryn’s previous records. This sounds and feels like an industrial ritual.

‘Harbour’ is the first single from ‘WE WERE MADE PREY’ – Kathryn Joseph’s fourth album. It is due for release on the 30th of May. Kathryn describes the album as “a record of hunger, lust, rage and devasting tenderness.” I cannae wait, lass. You can pre-order the album now.
