I’m already a fan of Paper Garden Records, thanks to some of the artists it supports, such as Camilla Wickman. What I love about the world that Bryan Vaughan has created is that it is both a record label and a music events agency. Each month, Paper Garden hosts a music night aboard their boat in Kingston, designed to cultivate talent that the company has curated. Floating on the Thames to acoustic music is a dreamy experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed the one I was able to get to earlier this year. I plan to support the project regularly in future months, and intend to pop a proper write-up about it on Higher Plain Music. Alongside that, Paper Garden UK runs riverhouse parties, market hall showcases, and DJ sets across London. Mixing digital music with a real space makes the label really stand out.
Paper Garden Records is pairing up with Em for Macaron to Kickstart a permanent arts space for creative exploration. Mixing a cafe with entertainment, grounded in sustainability and creativity, the goal is to create a shared space for music, art, and luxury desserts. Think of a community village gathering spot for creatives to support each other, and I think that’s what The Place to BE is aiming for.
You can find out more on The Place to BE website, and watch the Kickstarter video to back the project. If that’s not for you, but you’d still like some cosy music floating on the River Thames, I recommend visiting Paper Garden Records’ website for future Kingston Undercurrent dates.
