After spending 2025 away, Higher Plain Music Radio is back, with MixCloud. Each radio show will be themed around a genre, feeling, or concept, and Higher Plain Music will mine its huge resources to curate a playlist (or mixtape if you are old like me). Everything is curated by my hand and ear. I will not touch generative-AI or AI playlists with a barge pole.
Kicking off the return of this new feature is the first of two playlists showcasing some of my favourite alternative music from 2025. This 20-track, 74-minute show includes artists from TuneYards to Tummyache to Kathryn Joseph to Nadah El Shazly. The show starts with some alt and indie pop anthems to ease you in gently at first. Then the show veers into singer-songwriter and folk territory for a breather, before smashing through some grungy, raw rock, a bit of mystical neometal and neofolk, before rounding off in experimental world electronic fusion. It tells a whirlwind story to me, and the genre leaps are part of the fun you’d expect at Higher Plain Music.
I hope you enjoy the return of the radio shows. Mixcloud pays the artists royalties, which is why it costs money to host there, but it is a far more ethical solution to playlists and mixtapes than most other platforms. Happy listening!
Previous shows are available on MixCloud and our Radio page.
