Pattie Gonia & Imogen Heap collaborate for social and environmental justice

A daredevil music video features aerial performers BANDALOOP.

When two icons collaborate, greatness is often delivered, and Pattie Gonia and Imogen Heap’s collaborative song ‘Have You Considered?’ is just that. The track asks the listener to think about all the things we take for granted. It could be a person, a place, or the natural world around us. Aimed at prompting social and environmental justice, the lyrics demand “no more excuses, try” to push for collective action. This comes as global climate change targets continue to be missed, and political leaders are more interested in profit and war than ensuring there’s a planet to live on. The message is not to freeze, but to take action.

The track itself has a bulbous, cinematic swirl of vocals and percussive gallops that mimic a mechanical heartbeat and a wild horse gallop, rotating the world in unison. There is a gravitas to the track because of its sweeping synth string arrangement. I’m reminded of previous Imogen Heap songs like ‘Canvas’ and ‘Cumulus’, where everything feels grand and cinematic. The flowing, calm vocal layers also soften the quite pointed lyrics, telling people to put their screens down and take some real action. The track also uses found sounds from the Eastern Sierra (land of the Kootzaduka’a people) to integrate nature into the song itself, too. Headphones are recommended for this densely produced piece.

The music video for ‘Have You Considered?’ featured BANDALOOP. They are a troupe with over 35 years of experience performing acrobatics and dance using climbing technology. If you can hang off a building, or in this case, hang off rock formations and perform all kinds of tricks, BANDALOOP will give it a go. Even Pattie Gonia and Imogen Heap get into the climbing gear, in what must have been a fun and/or scary video to create.
