So I’m releasing a VGM-inspired album in September, and here’s the second single

A tribute to forest and temple RPG themes from the last 40 years.

Back in 2023, I announced I was working on a VGM-inspired album that paid homage to folksy, ambient, and tribal-infused forest and temple themes from RPGs. I had to put that project on hold whilst my dad was terminally ill and my mum was in a coma, but I’ve been beavering away, and the album is now nearly ready for release.

‘Sunken Cascadia’ is the second song I’ve shared publicly from the album. It’s a hypnotic zither-led endless cascade of notes, with unusual industrial metallic ambience gurgling away underneath. I wanted to evoke the sound of azure beauty, endless waterfalls in a hidden place, and mechanical contraptions making noises deep underwater. There’s often at least one underwater temple or tomb in an RPG. Throw in a Leviathan boss, or some kind of crystal at the bottom of a waterfall that is preventing worldwide doom, and we’ve got a selection of tropes to work with. The album itself is a mixture of gentle tonal pieces like this and more rhythmic and percussive tracks.

Forests and Temples Lost in Pixel will be released in September 2026. You can be notified of its release when you follow Sitorimon on Bandcamp. Thank you for entertaining a minor bit of self-promotion. Normal service resumes after this post!
