Harp Samuels is a folktronica singer-songwriter hailing from Australia – and no – there’s not a harp as the main instrument! Instead, “Breathe”, the title track from his forthcoming release, is a delicately balanced collection of electronic pianos, tuned percussion and some of the sadness vocal performances of quiet strength I’ve heard in some time. The track itself is quite a simple one musically, but the way it’s put together emphasises the melancholy mood but with eyes looking up to the horizon. Having lost his father last year, you can hear the grief and soul-searching in every note and judging from the single, when the album is released 14th September, it will be an emotional rollercoaster. It’s the perfect mix of poignancy and hope.
