Describing Kennebec and his music is quite difficult because there is a lot going on, all tied up into a neat chillaxed vibe. Kennebec takes a lot of instruments from around the world, pops them in a blender with some of your standard classical instruments and then serves the smoothie on a bed of beats and soundscapes. It sounds trite but there are so many sounds and nuances to discover that you’ll need time to appreciate the mashup of styles.
‘Abundance / In The Reeds’ is the new single from Kennebec’s forthcoming debut album ‘Departure’. It was inspired by trail running and takes in the sounds and colours of the rainforests in the Pacific Northwest. Across the single (and album) collaborator Mirabai Peart lends a Balkan flair with the violin and viola and it adds another dimension to the music.
