Introducing… Gigi Masin

Translating natural beauty into soundscapes

Ambient composer Gigi Masin is releasing his double album ‘Calypso’ next month and it sounds like it is going to be an epic musical adventure. The Venetian composers’ album is inspired by the mythical Greek island of Ogygia and its alleged real-life counterpart Gavdos. Its nickname is ‘Calypso’ and is an area of outstanding natural beauty which Masin has translated into music. He has also taken on board the power and drama of the Gods and Goddesses of Greece so the music crosses over between beauty and danger.

The lead track ‘Khalifa Golf Club’ really caught my attention because it mixes flowing synths with real-world instruments. I can hear the piano and a dulcimer but they ethereally blend into the mix creating a truly multilayered sound. You can enjoy the single below. Gigi Masin releases ‘Calypso’ on February 28th and is touring America in February and Europe in March to support the release.
