Sounds Like…
Dreamy sad pop.
The review
Meiko’s new EP ‘Weird World’ pops out at a weird time and decides to take up warm, quiet confidence in the corner of the indie-pop world. Each of the three tracks on ‘Weird World’ fall into the chill-out and whispery world of pop. The drum loops are soft and crunchy. The acoustic guitar is fluffy whilst the electric guitar riffs feel smooth and syrupy to the ear. This is all capped off with Meiko’s hushed vocal delivery and penchant for ad-libbed bridges and codas. She is a fan of of the ‘ooh’ and that adds to the dreamy feel that she creates.

On top of this, Meiko adds calm, controlled but positive lyrics. Yes, its a weird world but we can still kick ass and take things one step at a time forward into the unknown. On one hand Meiko soothes, on another she invigorates. It is on that basis, and the warm hug that the music gives, that ‘Weird World’ will keep you sane when you need it. A lovely glimmer of relaxation in these strange times.
