MrSteJ, whom some may know from the excellent DIY Musician Guide YouTube channel, has returned back to his more electronic roots with his new single ‘Our Duty to the Party’. Its mixture of post-rock electronica vibes, dystopian sadness and calming electric piano riffs make for an excellent track that builds and burns. Fans of cyberpunk, neon lights, dark alleys and techno George Orwell will enjoy the piece. It is the latest single from MrSteJ’s forthcoming album ‘Victory Gin’ which is available for pre-order on Bandcamp.
Accompanying the track is a slow burner of a music video. Taking inspiration from Orwell’s 1984 and the term ‘doublethink’, the video feeds us slogan after slogan to change the overall narrative of the test subject’s question. As someone who is doing a lot of research into normalisation and gaslighting at the moment, this video strikes a chord with me. Enjoy the single below.
