It isn’t often I think to myself ‘this bit of autotune is great’ but Raven Artson’s liberal use of it is inspired. Raven Artson creates what he classifies as Avant-Pop. It mixes up RnB beats, synthpop sensibilities and plenty of experimental noises to create something bright, hazy and a little alien by design. I can see darkwave and dark pop lovers really enjoying what Raven creates even though its, on the surface anyway, much more cheerful to casually listen to. Look deeper though and new single ‘Whatever’ is about apathy, authenticity and being yourself in a complex world. Plus there is a trombone outro so there’s that too.
‘Whatever’ comes from Raven Artson’s forthcoming EP of the same name which is due for release on the 23rd of October. Enjoy the excellent lead single below, which is out now.
