Vaughan is a fascinating mix of alternative pop, smooth electronic synths and ethereal soulful vocals. His songs straddle lots of mainstream sounds but mainstream is not a category I’d put him into. When thinking of his new single ‘Silence’, I think of carefully crafted electronica ballads like SOHN, a penchant for soulful blues like Antony and the Johnsons but with a voice that could suit an old school crooner or some minimalist RnB. As I say, its a unique and interesting mix which has really piqued my interest.
‘Silence’ is from the forthcoming EP ‘I Was’ which is due for release on the 11th of November. Vaughan also runs a podcast that partly shines a light on the topic of many of his songs – loneliness. Vaughan says his loneliness was the reason for many of his drug use and as he continues with his recovery, his podcast Burning in Water asks about how pain is often used to create art. Bringing his own experiences to each episode, each episode is a conversation around transforming tragedy into something beautiful.
