Sarah Blasko covers the alternative Australian National Anthem

Sound of Now.

For many Australians, Gang Gajang’s 1985 hit ‘Sounds of Then (This is Australia)’ is the pop national anthem of their country. Sarah Blasko was asked to cover it for an advert and she has given it her usual lavish cinematic vibe. Using dusty percussion, suave strings and Sarah’s piano chops, we have a more contemplative version of the pop classic. Whilst you won’t be able here it in full on TV, Sarah Blasko has popped it onto YouTube.

Enjoy the track below. We’re overdue a new Blasko album, having not long reissued her breakthrough ‘As Day Follows Night’ 10 years on. ‘Sounds of Then’ is available to buy as a standalone release.
