dream pop electronica Introducing... trip hop

Introducing… Union of Knives

Dystopian trip hop rock to bring about change.

Rivalling Kate Bush in terms of length, Union of Knives returned to music last year after a 14 year break. Their 2006 album ‘Violence and Birdsong’ put them on the map with a mix of industrial beats and ambient swirls. Flashforward to 2021 and things are darker, more dystopian and aggressively trip-hop. The idea behind their dramatic and cinematic new single ‘There’s a River’ is that you can push through all the noise with clarity by simplifying complexity. This translates into a track that is full of brooding and booming synths, drums and unusual instrumentation that bend and buckle. Yet through it all an ethereal voice floats around as if that is the golden nugget you are chasing. I really like the concept and the sound itself rocks.

Union of Knives have been releasing tracks again since last year to prepare for their forthcoming album. Entitled ‘Endless From The Start’, its currently pencilled in for release later this year. ‘There’s a River’ will be the opening track and set the tone for what sounds like a diverse and artistic mash-up of industrial electronica, rock and ethereal ambience.

Enjoy ‘There’s a River’ below. You can find out more about Union of Knives on their website.
