It is rare that a musician seems to leap with complete abandon between genres but Pendant is just that artist. I adore his 2019 album ‘Through A Coil’ and was excited to hear that he had signed a new label (Saddle Creek) and had new music coming out. What I didn’t expect was that the shoegaze rocker would shift his muddy sounds to the 90’s rave, pop and house genres! It still has a messy, emergent honesty to the music but the genres are a complete opposite. Yet, strangely, it makes sense. The grooves are strong, the vocals are punky, the synths have a sludge to them and the whole thing rocks. I am really intrigued to see where Pendant takes us.
‘Blood Rite’ is the new song to announce Pendant’s shift in musical direction and a new album is expected new year. Instead, if you want a gritty Prodigy inspired take on house music from the perspective of a shoegaze rocker – this is the track for you. It reminds me a little of Lupa J and her gothtronica vibe – just a bit happier in the mud. Enjoy the track below and keep up with Pendant on his website.
