O-SHiN is the project of electronic artist Stefanie Martens. Over the last six months, she’s been releasing various singles that have drawn comparisons to Four Tet and Maribou State. Her latest single “Visitor” is more relaxed electronica, borrowing from soul and transposing an intimate vibe across to thick synths and sublime percussive clicks. Stefanie’s vocals are very distinctive too – particularly her higher register that merges with the strings during this track.
There’s a lot more to O-SHiN’s backstory than most artists too. In 2016, Stefanie was on an aeroplane with a terrorist. That ordeal changed her life forever and she uses music as a way to cathartically explore her emotions on life, loss and the world around her. Her stage name O-SHiN translates from Japanese as “time for a good cry”, which I love too.
Enjoy the captivating electronica of “Visitor” below. The single is out now, with the debut album currently mooted for Autumn 2022.
