PLOSIVS is something of a punk rock supergroup. It is a merger of John Reis (Hot Snakes), Atom Willard (The Offspring), Row Crow (Pinback) and Jordan Clark (Mrs. Magician). Their name comes from the word plosive, which is a speech sound (t, k and p). It also comes from audio recording jargon where a vocal pop of a hard consonant overwhelms the microphone and distorts the sound. This is something everyone in sound recording has to fight with but it gives you an idea of the sound PLOSIVS want to create.
Their new single is “Broken Eyes” and features an aggressively creepy video of zooming in on eyes over and over again as the hard but melodic punk rock track jams away. I love the urgency paired with the melodic nature of the music. Often punk goes one way or another but PLOSIVS has straddled both sides of the fence.
“Broken Eyes” comes from PLOSIVS forthcoming self-titled debut album which is due out on the 15th of April. It sounds like it’s going to be a riot so enjoy the eye-watering music video below.
