Everyone could do with some dark Nordic folk in their life to purge the demons and have a weekend festival of fire and drums. Sowulo is fascinated by the cyclic nature of life and the world around him and explores this with his music as part of his spiritual path. Formed by multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Faber Horbach and Sowulo is the name of the Sun rune. Each album Sowulo creates has a distinct theme be it a Pagan festival or music on seasons and archetypes. Pagan folk lovers need to dive into his back catalogue as I’ve been doing – there’s lots to enjoy.
“Wurdiz” is the title of Sowulo’s forthcoming album, which is Norse for destiny. The album is slated for release on the 9th of September with “Wyrd Webba” being the lead single. It is a dense, sludgy mash of heavy percussion, droning reeds and synths and a powerful chanting vocal. It feels both oppressive and empowering which is quite a difficult balance to make as if your power is in your feet to move forward to the beat. The lyric video for “Wyrd Webba” is available below.
