It has been a while since I came across a piano and vocal singer-songwriter who captivated me on the very first listen. Melissa Weikart did just that with her new single “Ocean Song”. It is a bewitching mixture of elegant psychosis and dramatic off-kilter avant-garde moments. Melissa’s voice is rich and powerful when she wants to be but equally happy to lead you around like a siren. Long term readers will know my affinity with piano-based singer-songwriters who do things differently and Melissa Weikart fits the bill perfectly.
“Ocean Song” is a track about exploring another person’s body whilst searching for the mental and emotional comfort of a mind cuddle too. As Melissa’s mind gets fuzzy and tired, the song veers off-key and detuned. It is the new single from Weikart’s forthcoming debut album “Here, There” which is due out on the 27th of May.
