Iconic composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Lisa Gerrard has a new album in the works. Known as a regular sonic collaborator, she has reunited with Marcello De Fransisci for “Exaudia”, a new album due for release on the 26th of August. The two have worked together several times before, notably on tracks for the film Samsara and their superb previous album “Departum”. The term “Exaudia” describes when a monarch grants a citizen an audience with them to make a wish come true. A bit like winning the royal lottery! This regal idea transposes across to an album full of lush decorative exotica. Expect vibrant melodies, a rich blend of euphoric instrumentation and electronica and Lisa’s voice carrying a central pilgrimage throughout. “Departum” is a stunning album and I anticipate a similar level of excellence here too.
The lead single is called “Until We Meet Again” and tells a story of two people forced apart. Lisa and Marcello collaborated on this album remotely and in some ways, it is fitting that this story tells their story of musical collaboration too. Lisa Gerrard described the work as “deeply sensual”. As a fun tidbit, the vocals for the single were sent over to Marcello on New Year’s Eve! What a way to see out a year and bring in a new one.
The single is out now and the album is available to pre-order. Enjoy the music video below.
