Monowhales are a Canadian alt-rock band that focus on maximum attack, big chunky riffs, power chords and a hearty display of dramatic angst. Forming in 2017, Monowhales won a JUNO award earlier this year as their breakthrough act and new single “StuckintheMiddle” cements that. It is a confident affirmation of everything the band stands for and vocalist Sally Shaar kicks absolute butt both vocally and in the accompanying music video.
“StuckintheMiddle” is about intergenerational trauma, self-doubt, and a constant struggle against a male-dominated music industry. The video features Shaar chained in a 1950s kitchen whilst her bandmates serve her up some gross food. It is a great visual that furthers the themes of the track and its definitely one to empower the listener. Monowhales are building up to releasing their third album “Tunnel Vision” in the autumn but no release date is confirmed yet.
