Netlabels are online-only music labels that often celebrate and champion the best independent music. They often trailblaze new payment dynamics and offer more transparent relationships with their artists. It’s something Higher Plain Music is in the process of setting up in earnest too – as this site believes in the principles of elevating niche, independent music too. That’s why we want to point you toward an annual celebration of the medium.
The initiative takes place every 14th of July and is run by a Chilean record label, M.I.S.T. Records. It doesn’t matter what the music genre is, what matters is that on this day, the Netlabel releases music to cultivate that independent music scene. It is a great time for music fans to discover new artists from these compilations and possibly find some new favourite musicians to support. On the site, there is a list of netlabels to support. It’s a global event so go wild and support emerging musicians.
[Editor: Due to some limiting terms and conditions, and not being a label itself on the initiative, we can’t explicitly call it by its name – but the concept itself is well-meaning and spreading the love of netlabels and their mission is great, so I’ve taken some flexi journalistic takes on how to describe the thing without breaking any rules.]
