For episode 14 of Higher Plain Music, I went in a bit of an abstract direction. I wanted to create a mood around music that feels like it’s ramping up or drifting through time at multiple speeds at the same time. The feeling of being rampantly fast yet in slow motion. That led me to a mix of tracks that played on smoky jazz elements hiding in folk rock music, and choir and vocal arrangements that rise and fall in a Gaussian blur. This is a bit of an arty mix, featuring long tracks, and it spans indie folk rock through to experimental classical choral via modern jazz. This mix is definitely not for everyone, but I quite like the hazy mood it brings. I started with the lead track from Beth Orton’s latest album, and spiralled from there.
