Tel-Aviv based musician Monad (Esh Nachmany) creates an ambitious blend of psychedelic rock. It borrows a bit from 60’s jangle pop but leans heavily on 90’s dream pop and shoegaze. I stumbled across Monad when I’d just finished listening to Temple’s new album and whilst they aren’t a direct comparison, they certainly share a similar heady vibe. Monad last released music back in 2020, with his EP ‘Dissolution’. Since then, he has been adding more electronic elements to his music, given his love for tape machines and synthesizers and that helped create his new single.
‘Light In An Empty Room’ was inspired by a writing exercise where Monad was trying to create music from a visual perspective. He instantly clicked with Edward Hopper’s ‘Sun in an Empty Room’ and that is where the song comes from. Monad said the painting felt like seeing two versions of isolation – both inside and outside the room. Maybe that’s why the track feels so disconnected and dreamy.
