As PJ Harvey continues to explore her ethereal folk side, she has become a fascinating case to check in on from a live concert perspective. PJ adapts many of her previous songs into reworked or redressed versions to match the current era. Whilst her last three albums can all slot easily until this folksy vibe, its the mixture of other songs that piques my interest.
As the rain pours down in Barcelona for Primavera Sound, this beautiful concert has lots of gems. The added fiddle for ‘Send His Love To Me’ is a great touch and returning it with ‘Dress’ keeps the folk-rock alive and well too. ’50ft Queenie’ is more road trip rock n roll while keeping its riot power rage. ‘Angeline’ is sadder with a softer chorus, toning down the rockier side. ‘The Garden’ is totally transformed into a haunting slinky snake. It is a great performance that fans of her music over the years will enjoy, despite largely skipping her 2000s decade albums in this setlist.
