Pianist and composer Oliver Patrice Weder has been releasing improvised live piano sets and ‘Grand Piano Works Vol. II’ is the latest in the series. It features Oliver and his piano in the classy and intimate Quiet Studios in Madrid where a single spotlight illuminates him from the city windows around him as the camera pans 360 degrees. The six songs have Weder manipulating some of the wires of the piano guts to create some interesting sounds and textures. Some tracks are minimalist, others are more experimental but all are beautifully understated. It isn’t quite prepared piano, but there are nods towards that performance style.
