Poranguí launches new video series explaining the lineage of medicine music instruments

Poranguí creates medicine music that crosses over into electronic and dance music. His music often merges the past and present into one channel of positive energy, and I think of ancestral lineage whenever I listen to his music. It’s fitting, then, that Poranguí has started a video series to explain the heritage of some of the cornerstone instruments in his music studio and tour bus. Speaking about it in his newsletter, Poranguí writes:

I often get asked about the instruments I carry. Where do they come from? What meaning do they have? What story do they tell?

Each one carries a history far older than mine, shaped by the hands, the land, and the traditions it passed through before it ever reached me. Learning to play them has meant learning to listen closely enough that the sound moves through me rather than from me, preserving the story each one has to tell.

I’m excited to announce a new instrument series that just dropped on YouTube, where we explore the lineage, the traditions, and the stories of the instruments I carry. The first episode explores the didgeridoo and its sacred roots among the Aboriginal people of what we now call Australia.
