Alternative folk music has such a huge spectrum of sound these days as genres and tropes mash-up together and Oliver Spalding mashes up several constructs together in his single “Hiraeth”. Whilst folk is usually acoustic instruments, and we have guitar and piano aplenty here, there’a also a lot of subtle vocal looping, effects and electronica production hiding underneath everything. The result is something that when paired with Oliver’s sympathetic voice, is the kind of musical poetry your mind will wander off too.
Enjoy “Hiraeth” below – Oliver’s debut EP “Unfurl” is out 17th November.
