Bring me a creepy near-future Black Mirror music video and pop a catch synth-pop tune over it and you have a winner. Enter Discover Zone – the name for JJ Weihl’s new project. Her single ‘Blissful Morning Dream Interpretation Melody’ hints at how computerised binary processing may say the right things but not get the human touch. The floating bodyless synth voice says delightful words but the tone feels off. I love it when someone does subtly creepy catchy music and this is the bomb.
What makes it better is the fantastic music video. It is like one of those long informational ads from the dawn of shopping channels made to look like a public service announcement. The tone and feel perfectly matches the mood of the music and its one of the most entertaining music videos I’ve enjoyed for a while.
Discovery Zone is releasing her debut album ‘Remote Control’ on the 5th of June. Of the three tracks you can get now when pre-ordering, it tees you up for some fantastic experimental otherworldly synth-pop/. Enjoy the music video below.
