Katherine Aly is an artist I discovered last year and she’s back with a striking new single and video. Continuing her alt-pop journey, ‘Pariah’ is a more electronica based piece but using a full band sound. The song is about inequality and injustice. It’s a rallying cry to bring people together to fight against inequality and erase some of the narratives that swirl around worldly debates. To emphasise this, the music video for ‘Pariah’ features various people with the slurs and insults that they’ve heard written across their body and towards the end, they are being smudged and wiped away.
The track itself is a banger, showcasing Katherin Aly’s writing and vocal skills perfectly. Balancing catchy tunes with hard poignant points to hammer home is tricky but this is an example of when it goes right. Enjoy ‘Pariah’ below. Katherine Aly has an EP in the works although the release date is yet to be confirmed. The single is out now.
