Makoto Nagata brings a groove to his electronica similar in the veins of Four Tet, Bonobo and Caribou – my trinity of go-to artists when I want to describe zentronica. This is when you have a chunky beat, often a heavy bass to resonate through your body but it is combined with something ethereal or dreamlike. This is something Makoto Nagata brings to the dancefloor with perfection with his new single ‘Depth’. It brings all of the above a little throwback to the ’90s with some old skool dance vocal snippets hiding in the background. It is great fun.
‘Depth’ is taken from his debut release ‘Immersion’ which was released late last year. The album pulls in different slants on dance music and attempts to immerse you into various different layers of music whilst doing so. It is a lovely album and this track is one of the many highlights. Enjoy it below. With the mesh of dance, electronica, ambient and hip-hop beats, the future for Makoto Nagata looks bright.
